Dachshund Size Guide
Dachshunds are long, low and wonderfully awkward. A standard dog size chart does not always work for them, so measuring is important.
How to measure your dachshund
- Chest: measure around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs.
- Neck: measure around the base of the neck where a collar or harness would sit.
- Back length: measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.
For harnesses
The chest measurement is usually the most important. The harness should feel secure but not tight. You should be able to fit one or two fingers between the harness and your dog.
For jumpers and clothing
Check chest, neck and back length. Dachshunds often need extra length through the body, so do not rely only on weight.
Between sizes?
If your dog is between sizes, check the product notes. For most clothing, the larger size may be more comfortable. For harnesses, a secure fit is important, so compare all measurements before choosing.
Important note
Every dachshund is different. Miniature, standard, puppy and senior dachshunds can all have different shapes. Please measure before ordering rather than guessing.
